MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis, Light, Gas and Water will activate its Special Reconnection Program for residential customers Tuesday to help residents without one or more utilities.

According to MLGW, residential customers can pay $250, plus a reconnect fee, towards their outstanding balance to re-establish their utility service and cope with the extremely high temperatures and heat indices expected throughout the week.

Customers applying for the Special Reconnect Program must complete a Hazardous Weather Agreement and agree to a deferred payment plan for any remaining outstanding balance.  The payment period can range from five to nine months, depending on the amount owed.

Customers eligible for the Special Reconnection Program should bring two forms of ID and payment to any one of MLGW's five community centers.

  • 245 South Main Street
  • 2935 Lamar Avenue
  • 1111 East Shelby Drive
  • 2424 Summer Avenue
  • 5131 Navy Road (Millington)

The community centers will be open until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, to process program requests.
