MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The Calvary Rescue Mission is operating without power after an electrical fire left the homeless shelter without lights or air conditioning.

The fire took place Monday evening.

The Mission, located on South Third Street, serves homeless by providing food, showers, and a place to sleep, but with the power out, fulfilling that mission became hard.

"We are just running on what God gave us," said Calvary Rescue Mission Staff Member David Wiedmeyer.

With temperatures into the 90s, this week proved challenging.

"They stay out in the heat too long, they just dehydrate. Some of them don't have the capability or the resources to go get water," says Wiedmeyer.

Donations of food, water and generators have allowed the mission to keep its doors open.

More than 60 men still show up for dinner and fill the shelter beds at night.

Staff members said partial power could be restored as early as Thursday, and are hoping full power will be restored by the end of the week.

If you would like to donate any resources to the Calvary Rescue Mission, you can call (901) 775-2570.
