Brutally high temperatures and a heat advisory won’t be the only annoyance for Mid-South drivers this weekend.
City and state road closures will create detours on two busy roads.
TDOT said the ramp to I-40 westbound will be closed at the I-240 flyover construction site. The closure begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, lasting until 8 p.m. that evening.
Drivers that need to continue west towards Little Rock will have to detour to I-240 west, exit at Walnut Grove and get back on I-240 east until it becomes I-40 west at the interchange.
Part of Union Avenue downtown will also be closed Saturday morning, according to traffic engineers with the City of Memphis.
Crews will use a crane to install an air conditioning unit on the roof of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau at 47 Union Avenue.
Union Avenue will be closed between Riverside Drive and Front Street from 8 a.m. to noon. The city says detours could cause delays through that area.

The icy roads may be keeping the students from going to class, but it’s not stopping them from learning.
It's been a busy few days for tow truck companies as hundreds of cars wrecked in the icy conditions. Lately, Memphis roads have looked and even felt more like a skating rink.
Although some melting occurred Wednesday afternoon, any snow or slush will freeze over again through early Thursday morning.
