MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Over the Fourth of July weekend, a security supervisor for UPS reported the theft of packages that were supposed to be delivered to customers.

According to Ronald Barrett, an employee of UPS has been placing false shipping labels over original shipping labels on packages, diverting the shipments from the original address to addresses in Memphis, Tennessee.

This, in turn, constitutes a theft of the packages and contents.

On July 4, 2015, UPS security personnel intercepted five packages valued at $3,500 that had false shipping labels inside protective plastic sleeves diverting the shipments from the intended recipient..

On June 16, 2015, UPS security personnel intercepted two packages valued at $1,105 that had false shipping labels inside protective plastic sleeves diverting the shipments from the intended recipient.

Security personnel also intercepted three packages valued at $4,530 that had false shipping labels inside protective plastic sleeves diverting the shipments from the intended recipient.

Aaron Brandon accepted the five packages delivered to Buffer Drive in Memphis.

Detectives learned the license he used had the address W. Dison  Avenue in Memphis, where the packages intercepted on June 16.

Richard Mitchell accepted the three packages delivered to Julia Street. Detectives learned from Barrett that Mitchell had previously worked at UPS.

On July 14, 2015, Detective Sergeant B. Clark received information from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office AFIS unit that the false shipping labels that were being shipped to Electronic & More on W. Dison Avenue contained multiple identified finger prints belonging to a man named David Harris.

Det. Sgt. Clark learned from Barrett that Harris was a current employee who had ties to Richard Mitchell.

The finger prints were located on both the front and back of the shipping labels that were inside protective plastic sleeves and could not have been accidently touched by Harris during his employment at UPS.
