MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Investigators are searching for an aggravated burglary suspect.

According to police, an unknown man was caught on camera entering an unlocked room at the Holiday Inn Express in the 1100 block of Union Avenue. It happened Tuesday, July 14.

Police said the man then stole property from guests while they slept.

Police said the man got inside the hotel room because the guests' room was not locked.

“You’ve got to take crime seriously no matter where you are in the world, but in a city like Memphis it does have a bit of a reputation for a certain element. If you don’t lock your door you’re going to get robbed,” one hotel guest said.

Investigators added that the suspect is usually in the area of Union Avenue and Cleveland Street.

The hotel industry recommends people lock not only the dead bolt on the door but also the latch or door chain to be safe.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 901-528-CASH (2274), texting 'AWARD' to 274637 or visiting www.528cash.org.
