MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police are searching for a man who attacked a convenience store clerk in the Memphis Medical District on Monday.

It happened Monday just before midnight at the Exxon near the intersection of Union Avenue and Cleveland Street.

The clerk said the man was hanging around the store after buying cigarettes, so he asked him to leave.

That is when the man got upset and started flipping over displays.

The clerk grabbed a stick from behind the counter to scare the man away, but instead he attacked. The man took the stick and turned it on the gas station clerk, hitting him in the head several times.

The man then ran out of the store, leaving a mess in his wake.

The gas station clerk is OK. He did not have to go to the hospital.

Police said the man took off from the store running east on Union, toward Midtown.

If you have any information that might help police track him down, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH (2274), text 'AWARD' to 274637 or visit www.528cash.org.
