JACKSON, MS (AP & WMC) -

Some Mississippi state military personnel may now be able to carry weapons at National Guard recruiting centers.

Gov. Phil Bryant issued an executive order Monday authorizing the National Guard to arm certain full-time military personnel at facilities throughout the state.

The decision comes days after a shooting that killed five service members in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

24-year-old Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez shot and killed five service members at a pair of military sites in Chattanooga before he was killed by police. The first shooting took place at a military recruiting office at a strip mall. Counterterrorism investigators have not released a motive.

There are approximately 12,500 soldiers and airmen in the Mississippi National Guard.
