MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Bike Fest organizers are ready to have a good time and have goals to help the community.

Tom Lewis is part of Memphis Bike Fest, an event raising money to build safe houses for troubled youth all around Memphis.

"Our goal as an organization is to be a strong influence and resource for our at-risk youth," Tom Lewis said.

WMC Action News 5 talked to him outside one property being turned into a safe house and resource center.

"Computers, music making is very popular with our youth, so there will be some technology as well as counseling services and help promote a general understanding of the resources that they will have available for them," Lewis said.

There will also be an emergency shelter for kids and teens who need to escape a dangerous environment.

Memphis Bike Fest began Wednesday night on Beale with a parade to Tiger Lane. It'll last through Sunday with all kinds of music, food and fun.

They hope to bring 10-15 thousand people to the event, raising money to help young people in our community get out of dangerous situations.

However, helping kids and teens is not the only catalyst for the event.

"The opportunity on top of that is to be an agent of promoting racial harmony in our community," Lewis said.
