Memphis police arrested two people in connection to a shooting at the Wolfchase Galleria parking lot.

Crimes like this have people on alert while shopping.

"You have to be cautious," shopper Margarita Sandino said.

Another woman was robbed of her Xanax outside Walgreen’s on Summer Avenue.

Shoppers said their first step to staying safe is parking smart.

"I make sure I park closer to the building, especially if I'm shopping alone,” said Candace Nance. “Try to park under a light if it's nighttime."

The woman mugged for her meds was cased inside the pharmacy. Inside shopping destinations, Mid-South shoppers said they watch out for anyone who might be watching them.

"If you see anything suspicious, go back in the store," Sandino said. “Pay attention to everyone who's around you. If you don't want to walk outside, try to go where people are."

Shopper Kizmet Brooks said she is so vigilant, she almost did not stop for an interview.

"I almost didn't talk to you guys because I don't stop for people,” Brooks said. “I try to get in my car as quick as possible. I already have my keys out."

There is one thing every shopper we spoke to does to stay safe-- they stay aware of their surroundings and who is around them.
