MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A 7-year-old boy is credited with saving his family Thursday after he helped get everyone out of a burning home.

The fire started in a house off Dunbarton Drive in Horn Lake. Landon Galbreath, 7, spotted the fire and acted quickly, working to get everyone out of the home.

"I've never seen a fire before. I ran outside and told mama. Then we tried to get grandma out of the house,” said Landen.

His mom, Megan, tried to put the grease fire out buy putting flour on it, but only made it worse. Her mother was in the shower, so she quickly pushed the kids outside and ran to get her mother.

"Honestly, I didn't think he meant an actual fire. I thought he meant the eye of the stove was just red. I did not expect to walk in the house and see flames,” said Megan Galbreath.

"I was scared that my grandma wasn't going to be able to get out of the house,” said Landen.

The whole family made it out safe as fire crews arrived to put the flames out.

"It was a very big fire, it almost got the whole house up. There was smoke coming out everywhere,” said Landen.

Landen says he knew to run for help because he firefighters taught him what to do at a school career day. His mother said his quick thinking helped everyone get out alive.

The family lost everything in the fire, including a family van. But Landen has one item he’ll always cherish: a cross necklace, passed down from generation to generation. He said he is glad no one was seriously hurt.

"That everyone got out safe, that's the most important thing,” said Landen.

School starts in a few weeks and Landen and his father both suffer from asthma. Their medication was lost in the fire too.
