Police are still searching for the gunman who murdered Vicdarius Pollard at a basketball court at the LA Fitness Center near Winchester Road.

Family members are now publicly mourning their loss and pleading for justice.

"We're just in shock. It's just shocking," said Pamela Poole, Pollard's aunt.

Poole said her nephew, a Kirby High School graduate, purchased his membership at LA Fitness just a few weeks ago.

"He was excited about, it because it was his first purchase as an adult, because he just graduated in May from Kirby," Poole said.

Poole said her nephew had asthma and was happy to have a place he could play basketball indoors and out of the heat.

She said on the day Pollard was shot, he had exchanged words with a young man in the gym. She said he walked away to defuse the situation, but the other young man left the gym and came back with a gun.

"That person-- the shooter-– came in and went outside and got a gun. Put it in the backpack, came back in, pulled it out, and said something to my nephew when he pulled it out," she said.

The gunman began shooting, and Pollard died from his wounds.

Now, instead of planning for their son to go to college, his parents are planning his funeral. Poole said the family wants justice, which includes finding and arresting the shooter.

"They have to be in custody. They have to be in custody, You know the buck stops here."

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
