MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A family was awakened from their sleep Saturday night at 11 p.m.and ran to help a woman dumped on the side of the road near their house.

“It hurts me so much. I tried to save both their lives,” one witness said.

These heroic measures came from people who did not know the 22-year-old, nine-months pregnant woman lying on the side of the road bleeding after being shot several times including in the face. Her unborn baby died. She is at the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

“We’re getting threats.” said a man, who did not want to be identified for safety reasons. “My people looked out for her, so threats are being made toward us for just giving help. You know what I’m saying, and we feel like that shouldn’t be fair.”

The man said the threats came through Facebook.

“He was making threats like he was someone else,” he said.

The man believes the person making the threats is actually the person who shot the woman.

“It's gotta be the shooter. It’s gotta be the shooter who making the threats,” he said. “We want to know what happened too. It’s messed up for a guy to shoot a girl two times or however it happened.”

The man said the police are aware of the threats, but the shooter is still on the run.
