MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Collierville attorney was indicted Monday for trying to hire someone to kill his wife in two separate incidents.

According to investigators with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Fred Auston Wortman III was charged with two counts of solicitation to commit a felony and one charge of attempted murder.

June 5, Wortman was arrested in Fayette County, accused of trying to hire an undercover Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent to kill his wife.

Six days later, he appeared in Shelby County court for a previous attempt on his wife's life. Police said Wortman poisoned his wife's toothpaste in January 2015.

A grand jury indicted him for attempted first-degree murder in that case.

While in custody, the TBI said Wortman asked a fellow inmate at the jail to kill his wife.

Monday, Wortman was indicted on both solicitation to commit a felony charges in Fayette County.
