Police released a sketch of a man they said raped and beat a 25-year-old woman.

It happened April 14 around 11:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Wood Glade Lane.

The woman said she was sitting in her car outside the Mill Creek Apartments when a man smashed through her driver's side window with a crowbar.

He then swung the crowbar into the woman's head.

The man then locked the woman in the trunk of her car and drove her to a nearby park. There, he took her out of the trunk, raped her and hit her again with the crowbar.

The woman ended up in the hospital in critical condition. She has since been released.

"That's crazy, that's just ridiculous," said Jeremiah Smith. "I won't leave my kids or nobody by themselves."

A nurse who lived nearby ran out to help the woman while someone called police. They did not want to speak on camera, but said the woman was badly beaten.

Residents of Mill Creek apartments said they are on high alert.

"You're just scared to go to our mailbox. It might be your next door neighbor, how do we know?" said Colleen Glenn. "I'm going to have a bodyguard with me. I've got some brothers that will walk me to the store or whatever. I've got someone to come be with me."

If you have any information that could help police identify the man responsible for this attack, call Memphis police at 545-COPS.
