TEDxMemphis hosts first event, tickets go on sale August 1st

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

What’s next?  That’s the theme of the first ever TEDxMemphis talks in August. If you’ve heard of the famous TED Talks, you’re probably familiar with the short form talks that spread ideas.

TEDx events are independently organized events designed to bring communities together to share a TED-like experience. 

TEDxMemphis will be hosted Saturday, August 29, but tickets go on sale Saturday, August 1.

This year’s speakers include 17 speakers who are making an impact in Memphis:

Robert B. Carter: Executive Vice President, FedEx Information Services
Gabriel Fotsing: Founder and CEO, The College Initiative
Cliff Goldmacher: Songwriter, Producer, Engineer, Author, and Educator
Loretta Jackson-Hayes: Associate Professor of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Rhodes College
Ephie Johnson: President and CEO, Neighborhood Christian Centers
Dr. Scott Morris: Founder and CEO, Church Health Center
Kimbal Musk: Investor, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, and Chef
Marco Pave: Hip-Hop Artist, CEO of Radio Rahim Music, LLC
Dr. Sarah Petschonek: Founder and CEO, Volunteer Odyssey
Dr. Todd Richardson: Co-leader, Crosstown Concourse
Derwin Sisnett: Co-founder and CEO, Gestalt Community Schools
Katie Smyth: Founder, CEO, and Artistic Director, New Ballet Ensemble
Dr. Stacy L. Spencer: Senior Pastor, New Direction Christian Church

Organizers chose speakers with a wide range of topics from education, logistics, volunteering, healthcare, filmmaking and business.  The goal is to share ideas and spark conversation. And hopefully inspire collaboration and action across disciplines.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rose Theatre at the University of Memphis. The cost is $75 per person.
