WHITEHAVEN, TN (WMC) -

While Mid-Southerners continue to complain about the intense heat, some Memphis youngsters have found a way to make money off of it.

14-year-olds Tai Lomax and Nicholas Colbert open for business at noon from their spot at Boeingshire and Grovehaven. They have a cold drink stand and business is good.

Lomax said they got the idea for a drink stand two weeks ago.

Both said they got their business training through empowerment programs at Bridges and other organizations.

“It's taught me good leadership and good entrepreneurship," Colbert said.

The two Whitehaven High School ninth-graders said the way customers have responded to them has been amazing and encouraging.

"Well, they tell us how they admire us and they appreciate us doing something positive in our neighborhood and not running the streets or robbing people or breaking in houses," Lomax said.

Yet, these business-minded teens say this cold drink business is just the beginning.

"We had very high hopes of maybe starting our own grocery store, like maybe running a Walmart or Target,” Lomax said.
