MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police are on the hunt for two men they said robbed a man and then shot him as he was about to pump gas at a BP gas station.

Police say it happened early Thursday morning at the BP on Knight Arnold and Hickory Hill.

Jaye Richardson said the victim is her brother, 26-year-old Jeremy Richardson.

"He was getting some gas at the gas station then two guys walked up on him," said Jaye Richardson.

She said her brother doesn't harm anyone and now he's forced to have surgery after he was shot in his leg.

Richardson sent us a picture of her brother posing by his car-- the same car she said the robbers tried to steal. Police said the victim refused to give the robbers what they wanted, and that's when one man opened fire, stole his cell phone and drove off.

Police said the victim managed to get inside of his car and drive himself to his mother's home nearby where he called police.

Meanwhile, the WMC Action News 5 Investigators have you covered to keep you safe at the pumps

Experts said always give the robbers what they want.

If you're attacked at the pump and you must fight back, use anything around you as a weapon, like your car door and even the gas pump. If the gas station isn't well lit, pick another one.

As for Jaye Richardson, she wants the men responsible for putting her brother in the hospital to come forward and turn themselves in.

Memphis Police have not said if there is surveillance video from this incident.
