MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

For nearly 43 years, Dave Brown has kept a hand-written daily log of weather data for Memphis and the Mid-South.

In May of 1973, he began keeping tabs of hourly temperatures and sky conditions, as well as the forecast, and surface fronts for each day. He continues that tradition to this very day.

As a result, we have a detailed description of each day's weather from May 15, 1973 to this very day.

Over the years, Dave has stored the records in his attic, where they've become a little aged and brittle. A few weeks ago our weather intern, Ben Lang, began scanning these daily weather logs to PDF files in order to keep them preserved on a hard drive.

Some of  the most significant events of Mid-South weather can be found in these daily logs including Ice Storm 94, Hurricane Elvis, and the deadly tornado outbreak of February 5, 2008.

It has been fascinating poring over these records for the last few weeks. It's also good to know they are now preserved for the future and continue to be added to each day.
