SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC) -

The upcoming tax-free holiday could mean a big before-school rush in Mid-South stores.

"You could be standing at the register for two hours just checking people out constantly," said Mac Gittinger, who works at Plato's Closet. "You won't even know two hours had passed until you look at the clock and go like, 'whoa!'"

Plato's Closet sells gently used name-brand clothing, but for parents like Kali Scott, tax free purchases never go out of style.

"If you want to get all of your shopping done on one weekend, it would really give you some savings," said Scott.

Though clothing and shoes are tax exempt in Mississippi, school supplies aren't.  Some shoppers said that doesn't make sense to them.

"It's like, every year they need more and more and more," said parent Antoinette Beans. "So I'm like, are you using it for someone else?"

Even Gittinger plans to cash in before he goes back to college.

"You know, whenever I get off here, I'll probably shop around and next week head up to Tennessee before I head off to college," Gittinger explained.
