MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

An approved extension will add four more miles to the Shelby Farms Greenline.

Right now, the Greenline runs roughly 6.5 miles, but once construction on the extension is complete, the trail will run 11 miles long.

The plan is to extend the trail parallel to Mullins Station and have it extend over Germantown Parkway.

"We wanted to make sure we could connect as many as possible through that," said Shelby Farms Communications Assistant Rebecca Dailey.

The trail will cost $4.3 million to complete.

"As far as I can ride to the east, the better it is for me," said cyclist Cathy Crouse.

"It will be more accessible and easy to get on compared to the very limited access you have getting on the trail now," said cyclist Anthony Ellis.

Of the $4.3 million, $3.3 million came from state and federal funds provided through the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for August 7, and the project should take about a year to complete.
