WEST MEMPHIS, AR (WMC) -

A representative from Southland Park Gaming and Racing said they found an escaped greyhound Thursday evening.

The representative said they're investigating how the dog escaped.

According to witnesses, the dog ran out of the gate at the dog track.

"You see the Greyhound running down the street," witness Mike Williams said. "Then, all your see is all these people going right here trying to catch her, and she went down the ditch."

The ditch was located next to the Red Roof Inn, across the street from Southland.

Williams and Terry Roberson had just left school when they saw the greyhound, Cara, running away.

"The dog catcher came try to get it," Roberson said. "By the likes of the dog, it was scared and didn't want anybody to touch it."

Southland said Cara was captured several hours later when her trainer stood at one end of the ditch, someone stood at the other, and she finally came out.

It is unclear if Cara was supposed to race before her escape.

Southland said Cara is now safe and not suffering any long-term effects from her time on the lam.
