MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Security guards at the north end MATA Bus Terminal are sporting something new: body cameras. Some think it is the right thing to do, while others question whether the cameras will be used properly.

"Instead of them having to explain it, the camera can explain it all," rider Rodney Johnson said.

The guards wear them on the front of their clothes as they interact with customers during the day.

Three cameras have been in use for the past two weeks as a trial run.

"I think it's a good thing, it can protect them and who is down here," rider James Cloud said.

These cameras come just one year after a security guard was arrested for aggravated assault. He was accused of pushing 68-year-old passenger James Gray to the ground during an altercation. Gray later died from his injuries.

Despite being proactive, some worry the cameras won't be used properly.

"If it's not on at all times, it's not benefiting the riders," rider Cynthia Meeks said.

The cameras are still being tested.

During the trial, steps are being taken to find out the longevity of the batteries and the best way to use them.
