Hernando residents are growing more excited about the opening of a new Kroger marketplace.

The 124 thousand square foot store is set to open sometime in the fall. It will be located on a now empty lot on the same property as the current Kroger facility.

The store will bring 250 new jobs to Hernando.

"It's going to be the first one in the Metro area. The first one in the state of Mississippi," Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson said.

The new Kroger marketplace will have an expanded grocery section, home fashion and design, bed and bath, kitchen and small appliances, a baby world and even a Starbucks.

"Clothes and furniture and whatever else they have. That's going to be really exciting," Hernando resident Linda Howell said.

Hernando mayor Chip Johnson says they will begin breaking ground next week

"I think it's a perfect community. Right now we are going down to Gordon Road or to Memphis to get these groceries so we are so excited," Hernando resident Cindy Gordon said.

Johnson said they will break ground on August 7th.
