5 great things that happened in the Mid-South this week


Despite the scorching hot temperatures, Mid-South residents stayed cool and had a fun week!

1. Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series in Southaven

Fourteen baseball players from Nicaragua headed to the Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series in Southaven, Mississippi.  While in town, the team stayed with DeSoto County Judge Karen Sanders and kept cool at the pool.

2. TCAP Scores

Shelby County Schools students made gains in nine out of 10 subjects across all grade levels.  Their highest gain was in Algebra II.

"Just very proud of our school leaders and our teachers," said SCS Superintendent Dorsey Hopson.

3. HBO putting Memphis on the map

Film crews took over downtown Memphis for "Quarry," a crime series based on novels about Marine who returns home to Memphis from Vietnam.  

4. Young entrepreneurs beat the heat

Two Memphis teens turned the heat into a business opportunity. The teenage entrepreneurs set up an ice cold drink stand.

Not only are they making their mom proud, the Whitehaven High School freshmen said this is just the beginning of their business careers.

5. Superheroes at Le Bonheur

A group of superheroes made a stop at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital to meet some super patients.

Several comic book artists were also on hand to draw for the kids.
