Woman killed Saturday after shooting in Cordova

CORDOVA, TN (WMC) - A woman is dead after a shooting in Cordova early Saturday. It happened in the 8400 block of Bazemore Road.

Memphis Police have identified the victim as 55-year-old Susan McDonald.

When officers arrived, they found a woman on the ground with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

McDonald was picking up a friend to go to a 5k run.

Neighbors said around 6 a.m. Saturday, their quiet subdivision exploded in gunfire.

"I asked the officer if I could go home and they said you can't go home, it's a crime scene and they explained to me that it was a homicide in the cove," said neighbor Boomie Nathan.

Nathan said when he walked past the body, it was covered with a blue tarp. Other neighbors noticed a large amount of blood surrounding the body.

Friends and family are struggling to wrap their minds around what happened.

"Trying to figure out how to give it logic," said friend Dusky Norsworthy. "What were they after, why did they do it?  Why did it happen to her? When I think of Susan, I always think of her laughter.  She laughed at herself, she laughed at things, she laughed at people."

"I hope they find out what happened to her and if it was random, because if it was random, it's scaring me," neighbor Alyssa Kintanar said.

Some neighbors said the shooting has caused them to consider moving.

"Its very shocking. I'm scared. My wife is here; I'm scared someone might follow us.  Actually, I have to re-think whether we will live here or not," Nathan said.

No arrests have been made. This is an ongoing investigation. All police know is that a dark-colored vehicle sped from the 8400 block of Bazemore Drive following the shooting.
