35 Shelby County schools ranked in top five percent statewide

Thirty five Shelby County schools earned a spot on the 2015 list of Reward Schools.

According to a release from SCS, Reward Schools are the top five percent of schools in the state for progress or performance.

Middle College High School kept their spot on the Reward Schools list for both performance and growth for the second year in a row.

Two Shelby County Schools also made their way off of the Priority Schools list. The Priority Schools are the bottom five percent of school in the state. Though the list is only released every three years, the Tennessee Department of Education said that City University Boys Preparatory School and Springdale Elementary School have already been removed from the list.

Superintendent Dorsey Hopson released the following statement Monday:

"We're always excited to see our schools make progress, especially those named Reward Schools for exemplary results in the 2014-15 school year.  We recognize that more work is necessary to ensure across-the-board gains in performance and progress, but this is proof that in many cases, we're trending in the right direction."
