A Memphis woman who hadn't seen her youngest kids in nearly three years was finally reunited with her family.

Evie Winkfield smiled as she waited for four of her kids to fly in from New York.

Winkfield said her now ex-husband disappeared with the four children in October 2011. She didn't hear from them or about them until October 2013 when a social worker in New York called to tell her that her kids were in state custody after being found at a shelter.

"He was probably talking bad about me to the kids, saying that I ran off and left them or things like that, but you know, God is good," said Winkfield.

Winkfield said her husband suffers from an unspecified mental condition. The kids were homeless when the state took them into custody.

With the help of her pastor, Reverend Eric Blake, Winkfield began working to get her kids out of state custody.

As a part of the state's plan to gradually restore Winkfield's relationship with her children, she was required to make a series of visits to the place where they were staying in New York.

Now, Winkfield has full custody of all four children, who met her and their older brother and sister at the airport.

"Without God, there is no way this would have happened," said Reverend Eric Blake of Next Generation Church. "He was working behind the scenes, even when she didn't know what was going on, He was working."

Winkfield added that she and other members of her church prayed daily for the safe return of her children.

"Trust and believe in God," said Winkfield. "You can't go wrong; you can't go wrong. You've got to put him first in everything you do."
