MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Mid-South communities will come together to stand against crime Tuesday night.

It's National Night Out, and it comes as an ideal time--just days after a man shot and killed a Memphis police officer during a traffic stop.

The annual get together is designed to promote better relationships between law enforcement and the people living in the communities they serve.

With better relationships, the idea is that people will be more willing to help officers, and in turn officers will be able to better protect law abiding citizens.

Thousands of communities are hosting National Night Out events across the country. Below is the list of places hosting events in the Memphis area:

Glenview Neighborhood Association

4 - 7 p.m. at Glenview Community Center in Glenview Park

1141 S Barksdale Street, Memphis, TN, 38114.

Oasis of Hope and Promise Development Corporation

5 - 8:30 p.m. at Bickford Community Center

Aspire Public Schools

5 - 7 p.m. at Aspire Hanley Elementary School

680 Hanley Street, Memphis, TN, 38114
