A 12-pack of number two pencils, four college ruled, 120-plus page notebooks, one pack of red highlighters, hand wipes, hand sanitizer, a 36-pack of Crayola crayons, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Educators said that is a typical (yet partial) list for a Kindergartener starting school, and that doesn't even include school clothes!

In fact, the cost of the average elementary back-to-school supply list in 2015 is about $100, and that is only scratching the surface.

Teachers we talked to said cost does depend in part with where you shop, but on average, the cost is going up each year.

Things like facial tissues, disinfectant wipes, hand wipes and hand sanitizer are among the top items requested on teacher wish lists in 2015.

TeacherLists’ findings also reveal that while middle school and high school lists are typically shorter than elementary school lists, they ultimately cost parents more, according to teachers and educators.

Teachers blame that increase in part to the strides made in technology and the items to go with those computers and iPads.

Some schools in the Mid-South offer to "pack the pack," and buy all your kids school supplies for you. That too will cost you, but your peace of mind and desire to avoid the crowds to find that perfect red, two-pocket, three-prong folder with fasteners can rest!
