MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police officers are investigating a fatal shooting in Frayser.

Officers found a man in the 3000 block of Morningside Street in extremely critical condition.  Police later confirmed that he died.

"Oh, God have mercy on Memphis, Tennessee," grandmother Millie Jackson said. "And the United States of America."

Jackson and dozens of family members arrived on Morningside Street. She thought the worst had happened to her 20-year-old grandson.

"I pray everyday that it does not happen to my grandchildren; the children that's in my church; the children that I know and love," Jackson added.

A witness told police that another person, who was also shot, ran from the scene.  Officers haven't found him yet.

Witnesses believed the shooting may have been part of an attempted robbery.  Police said the suspect left the scene in a yellow two-door sports car. Officers have not arrested him at this time.

"No area is immune to crime, so it's not as surprising as it is heartbreaking," neighbor Beverly Parish said.

Jackson eventually learned that her grandson was not the victim, but she said that will not stop her from praying for the victim's family.

"There's so much of this going on. There's just no words."
