SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

Many hit the malls this weekend to take advantage of the tax-free weekend in Tennessee.

With Shelby County Schools returning to class Monday, shoppers rushed to get their last-minute school supplies sans tax.

"We're kind of done shopping all summer long, so we just came to get the rest of the left overs," Leslie Barnett said.

Tennessee's tax-free weekend ends Sunday, but we found stores full of shoppers buying school supplies, clothes and shoes all tax free. Although, not everything is tax free. For example, backpacks are included, but not briefcases.

Clothing up to $100, school supplies $100 or less and computers less than $1500 are all tax exempt. For a full list of Tennessee tax exemptions, click here.

Behind Black Friday, it is the biggest shopping weekend of the year, and if you can handle the crowds, Barnett said it is worth it.

"We saved something," she said. "It makes a difference; every little bit counts."
