Cooler temperatures are coming, just hold on

A weak cold front brings cooler drier air by midweek A weak cold front brings cooler drier air by midweek

We've had to endure some serious heat for the first few days of August. Six of the last nine days have had high temperatures in the mid to upper nineties in Memphis with heat index values in the triple digits.

August is typically a warm month here in the Mid-South with average highs in the lower nineties but so far temperatures have been running two to three degrees above average and that's factoring in two days with below average highs.

Despite the heat, rainfall for the month thus far is at 3.28 inches which is 2.25 inches above average. The additional moisture at the surface has led to some muggy conditions, and when combined with highs in the mid and upper nineties, that has keep the heat index high.

Fortunately, some relief is on the way in the form of a weak cold front. It's certainly not an end to the August heat for the month, but at least it will bring in some cooler air for a few days, which in turn will keep high temperatures below average by a couple of degrees for the middle and end of the week.

Monday promises to be hot and humid again with highs in the mid to upper nineties and heat index values ranging from one hundred five to one hundred ten.

Tuesday will be warm with highs in the lower nineties but the air will be drier which will keep the heat index low.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the drier air remains in place with high temperatures only in the upper eighties to near ninety. Enjoy it while it's here, because temperatures will begin to inch back into the low to mid nineties by next weekend.
