MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man is accused of stalking and stabbing a woman at random in a parking lot.
Police said 19-year-old Lloyd Green admitted he wanted to kill a woman he spotted in the 3000 block of Mendenhall Road.
The affidavit said after Green spotted the victim, he went back to his house, grabbed a knife, ski mask and gloves, and came back to stalk the woman.
After he stabbed her, the victim got away and drove to the Mt. Moriah Police Station looking for help.
"I wouldn't know what to do in that situation," said Devika Williamson, who shops nearby.
Police said Green pretended to be a witness at first, but soon became a suspect. He reportedly admitted to police that "he was trying to kill the victim and slit her throat."
The victim, Krystal Davis, had a message for her attacker and anyone who finds themselves in a violent situation.
"I refuse to die for the simple fact that I have a 6-year-old daughter at home," she said.
Davis said the thought of her daughter is what kept her alive. The violent attack has left her with multiple stab wounds and haunting memories.
"All of a sudden I see him and he comes up and starts stabbing me for no reason," Davis said.
She said she was in between jobs and decided to park to rest her eyes. She said Green came and asked her if she needed help. She said no, but minutes later, he attacked her with a knife.
"We were scuffling. I was fighting back, trying to take the knife away from him," Davis said.
The attack has left her with more than 20 stitches in her leg, hand and thigh.
With no motive, Davis just wants to know why Green did it.
"At least have a motive for why you are killing somebody," Davis said. "How would you feel if someone did this to your mom, grandma, grandchild?"
Davis said she hopes other women will fight back when in violent situations.
Others said you need to be vigilant.
"You've got to have eyes in the back of your head right now," said Patricia Rogers of the MLK American Dream Neighborhood Watch.
Rogers said it is important to be aware of your surroundings, no matter how familiar you are with the area.
"You see someone who looks suspicious, just kind of get near a crowd of people. Go in the store, don't leave," she said.
Davis is recovering from her injuries and Green is now locked up. He is being charged with attempted first-degree murder and his bond has been set at $5 million.
