HERNANDO, MS (WMC) -

Two parents who plead guilty to torturing their 11-year-old son are waiting to hear how long they will spend behind bars.

Prosecutors called the boy's death one of the worst abuse cases they have ever seen.  They said that 11-year-old Tyler looked like he had been burned with cigarettes and beaten, even branded when they arrested the couple last February.

On the witness stand, Amanda Raines' coworker fought back tears as she described Amanda as a good mother.  Amanda's sister also testified, saying that she never saw Amanda be mean to her children.

Some members of the community have strong opinions about the case.

"She should go to jail for a very long time. No mother should do that to her children. Parents are supposed to love their children, feed their children, clothe, that's all children need."

The District Attorney said that Jack and Amanda Raines could face anywhere from 20 to 40 years in prison, if not life.
