U of M to receive part of $1M grant aimed at veterans

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

State funding in Tennessee will go to 11 colleges trying to recruit more veterans.

The University of Memphis is one of the education centers receiving between $80,000 and $95,000 as part of the Veteran Reconnect Grants.

The $1 million grant will help create new staff positions and training focused on meeting veteran-specific needs.

Gov. Bill Haslam's office announced the grant Monday saying it's an effort to help court a growing veteran population as the military reduces its ranks.
