MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police are searching for two men who robbed a 20-year-old U of M student as he sat in his car at a stoplight.

It happened at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Perkins Extended on July 21.

"Memphis is off the chain right now," one driver said when we told him about the crime.

The biggest danger in traffic is usually from other drivers, but the risk is crash-related, not robbery-related.

“Buy a gun, lock your door, keep your window up," the driver said.

The suspects' vehicle pulled up beside him in traffic.

That’s when one man jumped out of the passenger side, opened the victim’s unlocked door and pointed a gun in his face.

"Just sitting there relaxing you wouldn't expect anything like that,” another driver said. “So, it would be an off-guard moment.”

Police released surveillance photos Wednesday of the suspects and the car involved in the crime.

Police said the men tried to use the victim's credit cards at a couple of stores, including a Shell station at Summer and Highland.

"It's just one of those things that can happen whenever," another driver said.

He said keeping your car doors locked may not always be enough to protect you.

"Just like with homes,” he said. “You can keep your home locked up, but if they want in, they're going to get in.”

We spoke with the victim who was too shaken up to appear on camera.

He hoped the photos of the men who robbed him would help lead to arrests.
