A Mid-South mother said a school bus accident was not as minor as district officials claim.

In fact, she said her 6-year-old daughter ended up with a head injury.

"Now she's fearful to get on the bus," Jessica Walker said.

Walker’s daughter and 10-year-old son were on board a parked bus Thursday morning when a second bus rear-ended it outside Lucy Elementary School.

“They said 'Oh, I guess she just bumped them,'" Walker said.  “She did more than bump them, they were stuck together."

Walker took photos of the buses after the accident.

She said school staff told her 18 kids on board both buses were OK, but she was not convinced.

"My daughter was holding her neck and said she wanted to be checked out," said Walker.

Walker said she took both of her children to Le Bonheur for an examination.

She provided paperwork which stated that doctors treated her daughter for a head injury with loss of consciousness. However, the mother said her daughter did not get knocked out. She said her daughter claims everything went dark for a second during the crash but then came back.

"She's had cat scans, head x-rays, she's been through the wringer and it's only the first week of school," said Walker.

Shelby County Schools issued a statement about the accident:

"There was a minor accident involving two buses at Lucy Elementary. Paramedics were called as a precaution, but there were no reported visible injuries to any children."

“She had a concussion," Walker said.

The district acknowledged some parents chose to take their children home after the initial assessment.

"I just want answers, and I won't stop until I get them," Walker said.

WMC Action News 5 reached out to Durham School Services. A representative said she does not have details about the crash but added, "I can confirm that one of our buses bumped into another bus at Lucy Elementary School this [Thursday] morning."
