A Better Mid-South: Covington body cameras

Editorial by WMC Action News 5  General Manager Tracey Rogers:

I believe the use of body cameras by law enforcement officers has become necessary.

With that, I applaud Covington Police Chief Buddy Lewis, Covington Mayor Justin Hanson, and District Attorney General Mike Dunavant on the work they have done to outfit Covington police officers with body cameras.

The Covington Police Department is the first in the 25th Judicial District to deploy the cameras. The equipment was paid for by a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Office.

It's time for all law enforcement agencies to be equipped with this technology.

I believe body cameras are imperative for the safety of officers and the trust of the public. Kudos to Covington for leading the way.

Body cameras for all law enforcement officers will make this a safer and better Mid-South.
