GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC) -

Germantown is becoming a battlefield. Not for violence, but instead, grocery stores.

Whole Foods will be the latest supermarket to open in the city and when it does, competition will be that much stiffer.

"We have a desire to be here. They have welcomed us with open arms and we're happy to be here," said Emily Lux, Whole Foods.

About one block away from the new Whole Foods location, a guitarist entertained shoppers on Monday at the newly renovated Kroger on Farmington Boulevard.

"Love it. Love it, baby," said shopper Matt Bronson. "I don't know why I'm so excited about shopping, but when you're here, man, it just makes it better."

And not too far from Kroger, you will find more shoppers at Target and Sprouts in Forest Hill Plaza.

Add it all up and there is a battle going on for your grocery dollars. More and more stores are getting in it to win it.

"That's one of the reasons we have our new additions here," said Teresa Dickerson, Kroger. "The new Corky's, the new juice bar, because we want to make our customers happy."

And shoppers are loving the competition.

"I think it's better because we have more options," said shopper Leticia Ramirez.

So, get ready for a food fight -- the kind where the winner is likely to be the customer.
