Thieves took advantage of a family tending to a loved one after a motorcycle accident.

Phillip Jolly, 52, lost control while driving his motorcycle Saturday near Crest Ridge Road and Waterview Circle.

Jolly’s wife was reportedly in her car following behind Jolly when he lost control.

Police said the force of the accident rolled Jolly into a wrought iron fence.

"There were just blue lights and red lights everywhere,” Jolly’s stepson, Alex Hurst, said.

Alex said his mom called him and told him that a car of people pulled over to call the police.

"She had just left the grocery store, so her purse was still sitting in the front seat," Hurst said.

He said as his mom was outside helping her husband when the people who stopped to call 9-1-1 walked away with her purse and money.

Police were notified about the stolen purse, and Jolly was rushed to the hospital.

With Jolly now in the hospital undergoing medical care for a broken femur, 10 broken ribs, a broken jaw, collapsed lung, and major facial injuries, the family said the purse and money are the least of their worries.

“We are just glad Phillip is still with us," Hurst said.

Friends of the family set up a Gofundme page to help with medical expenses.
