Shoppers in Germantown lined up to welcome the area’s newest Whole Foods store on Tuesday.

City of Germantown said the grand opening was a huge success.

Last September, the store pulled a $6.5 million permit to build the new market and it hired more than 100 grocery workers.

“I think it's just unbelievable that we have these type of food shopping options,” said shopper Steve Priddy.

The store celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony and freebies for the first guests.

“We had a prize wheel, we had Elvis, gift card giveaways, we had local bands Mighty Souls, and several speakers,” said Emily Lux, the store's marketing team leader.

The aisles were packed with people as they filled up their grocery carts with fresh foods and vegetables in the new 41,000 square foot store.

Popular shopping features were the juicing station, crepe bar, and the Korean and Japanese kitchens.

“The fresh donuts and crepes are always a hit,” Lux said.

Loyal Whole Food shoppers said the experience could not have been better.

“I shop at the Poplar location quite often, almost every day, and of course, this is my first time coming to this location and I'm so excited because it's closer to my home,” said shopper Petrey Mack. “Everyone is just so friendly. I've even seen some of the employees from the Poplar location, so it was like home.”
