Get ready for our next round of rain

Forecast model rainfall estimate for Wednesday and Thursday Forecast model rainfall estimate for Wednesday and Thursday

A cold front is headed toward the Mid-South and will move through the WMC Action News 5 coverage area Wednesday.

This front will bring cooler temperatures to the Mid-South, but we have to get through a considerable amount of rain first.

The leading edge of the front and the first round of rain will be here Wednesday morning. Expect some heavy downpours and a few thunderstorms.

The most likely areas for rain will be along and north of the I-40 corridor. Rain and thunderstorms will then spread farther south and east through the morning in the the early afternoon.

The heaviest rain is expected to move through along the front from midday until late afternoon. Rainfall amounts will average an inch to an inch and a quarter for most areas. However, heavier amounts are possible, especially in northeastern Arkansas and parts of north Mississippi along and north of Highway 278.

A few showers will continue overnight Wednesday into early Thursday then a somewhat drier air mass will move in by Thursday afternoon.

Slight rain chances will continue for the end of the week and weekend, but afternoon highs will only reach the mid eighties to lower nineties.
