MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The BBQ Shop was already featured in the New York Times and named the number one BBQ restaurant in America by the Food Network.

Now, they’re getting another helping of national exposure.

The Travel Channel series “Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations” hit Memphis this week, and host Andrew Zimmern picked BBQ Shop for one of his stops.

"His crew said ‘Hey, Andrew wants to come back and see you,’ and I thought, hey, come on," said Eric Vernon, the co-owner of BBQ Shop.

The Travel Channel didn’t stop there. It also visited Gibson's Donuts.

Employee Michael Nesta said the Travel Channel crew took their sweet time taping a segment--a full eight hours.

"Got us in the back, talked to the owner, got little random interviews with people coming in,” he said.

As generations of doughnut lovers have learned, there is nothing bizarre about their appeal.

"A lot of people say they just come through and they see it, and they have to come here. It's like a landmark here in Memphis," Nesta said.

Those featured on national TV might not be the only ones benefiting, however.

"It sends a lot of people through Memphis as well, so they get to visit other things,” Vernon said.

Travel Channel is expected to also stop at Central BBQ, Rendezvous, Gus’, and The Second Line. The show will air sometime this fall.
