The father of the Corinth police officer who was shot on Wednesday morning also happens to be the person who sold the bulletproof vest that saved his son's life.

Kevin Parker Sr. spoke to WMC Action News 5 about the call that no parent ever wants to receive.

"It's a frantic phone call," he said. "A call that you just don't want to get at 5:15 in the morning. They said he was shot, shot twice, but he's OK."

Kevin Parker Jr. is OK thanks, in part, to the bulletproof vest he was wearing when he was shot.

"He got out and the guy just started rushing him and grabbed his weapon and the shots went off," Parker Sr. explained.

Parker Jr. was shot twice, once in the vest and once in the shoulder.

A 20-year law enforcement veteran himself, Parker Sr. understands the risks of serving as a police officer. He said his son always wanted to follow in his footsteps.

"He got in the army and law enforcement, so that's his calling, I believe, and he's already talking about going back when he gets well," Parker Sr. said.

In a life-saving twist to the story, Parker Sr.'s company actually sold the bulletproof vests to Corinth Police Department just six months ago.

"It's definitely a miracle. God had his hands all over him," Parker Sr. added.
