SCS district holds community meetings explaining priority schools status

SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

Shelby County Schools will hold a series of community meetings to explain what it means for a school to be designated as a Priority School by the state.

The meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the following schools:

Thursday, August 20 – Caldwell Guthrie Elementary School

Monday, August 24 – Sheffield Elementary School

Wednesday, August 26 – Raleigh Egypt Middle School

Monday, August 31 – Kirby Middle School

The state’s priority list includes all elementary and middle schools with a success rate below 23.2 percent. These schools are also considered to be in the bottom 5 percent.

According to Tennessee law, Priority Schools may be eligible for interventions, including being deemed eligible for the state's Achievement School District (ASD).
