JACKSON, TN (WMC) -

Jackson, Tennessee police officer Joshua Vinson is the 2015 Kiwanis Officer of the Year.

By all accounts Vinson is a stand up citizen dedicated to serving his community.

In one instance, Officer Vinson helped save a newborn's life.

A mother flagged Vinson down as he was on patrol. Her daughter was going into labor.

Officer Vinson stepped up to help deliver the baby and even removed the umbilical cord from around the baby's neck, potentially saving the newborn's life.

Officer Vinson has been recommended for a Life Saving Award for his actions.

Jackson Police Department leaders said there are countless other examples of Vinson stepping up to save lives and make the community a better place to live.

Vinson credits his service in the United States Marine Corps with impressing upon him the value of hard work and discipline.
