MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Family and friends held a prayer vigil for a woman stabbed to death in a case of domestic violence.

With heads down and eyes closed, the family of Yolunda Bolton, thanked God for her life and prayed for strength to go on.

"She was special to us," Bolton's sister Angela said. "She was dear in our hearts; she meant a lot to us."

Bolton's 15-year-old son found his mother's body lying lifeless on her front porch outside her home on Birdsong Ferry Road.

"God has my back," Jerrod Bolton said. "He is holding on to--he's got my tears."

Jerrod said his main focus now, is being strong for his younger sister.

"I'm trying to be strong for her," Jerrod said. "I'm thinking if I don't cry, then she won't cry. It feels like I have a lot of hands wrapped around me."

Bolton's ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Danterio Perkins, has been charged with her murder.

Bolton's family said she filed an order of protection against Perkins because of intimidation in the past.

In the face of her death, Bolton's family is focused on the way she lived, and coming to peace with the man who took her away.

"I pray to God that God will have mercy on his soul," Angela said.

Bolton's funeral is set for Saturday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
