MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Ten dogs were malnourished and abused when investigators rescued them from a veterinarian office.

The man in charge of the office is now behind bars, charged with pretending to be a qualified vet.

In actuality, police said Eric Harton, 44, had no veterinary qualifications. Police said he abused his K-9 patients, possibly keeping some to be used in dog fights.

"It always looked extremely shady to me. I just heard to stay away from there," one neighbor said about Pet's Choice on Winchester Road.

Thursday undercover police raided Pet's Choice and found 10 starving and abused dogs.

Investigators said they haven't figured out where those dogs came from or how long Harton posed as a veterinarian.

The animals are currently being housed at Memphis Animal Services while the investigation continues.

Harton is in 201 Poplar on a $15,000 bond and is due in court next week.
