Employees of ServiceMaster spent all day Friday participating in their annual “We Serve Day.”

The event took place in 10 cities from Miami to Phoenix, all with a goal of giving back to the communities in which they live and work. The Memphis
group spent their day at various non-profits helping with various projects.
One of the highlights in Memphis: The Make-A-Wish volunteers had the honor of granting a wish.

Eli and his family got to tour the ServiceMaster facility, visiting all four floors, with fun activities to participate in. At the end, as he walked through a tunnel of volunteers they presented him with his wish; a trip to Hawaii with his family.
Volunteers also visited the DeNeuville Learning Center, FedEx Family House, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, Junior Achievement of the Mid-South, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Memphis Child Advocacy Center, Mid-South Food Bank, National Civil Rights Museum, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Orpheum, Youth Villages along with Make-A-Wish of the Mid-South.
Projects included installing new computers, preparing and packaging meals, packing bags and home repair and yard work. They raised money for several organizations and presented donation checks for their efforts.

Organizers of “We Serve Day” said it was a great way to give back to the communities where their employees live and work.
“Service is the heart of our business – to our customers and the communities we serve,” said Rob Gillette, ServiceMaster’s chief executive officer. “It’s all about giving back to organizations that help strengthen the communities where we live and work. And what better way to celebrate our legacy than by giving back through projects that make a difference to our community partners and to those they help.”
“I think many of our volunteers agree: This is the best day of the year,” said Velvet Graham, senior director of events and community relations. “While our business is to serve residential and commercial customers year-round, it always feels good to take time away and go the extra mile for the communities we love.”
