Cooler and drier week ahead - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Cooler and drier week ahead

We had our fair share of strong thunderstorms in the Mid-South this weekend as a storm system pummeled through our area. Many spots saw heavy rain and lightning, but some areas in northern Mississippi had wind gusts up to 60 mph and golf ball-sized hail. We tracked several storms with severe thunderstorm warnings over the weekend.

Thankfully, drier air behind a cold front will squash the chance for thunderstorms AND the humid conditions. We will remain humid for the first part of the night, but the front will move through our area by tomorrow morning. The lower humidity behind the front is what will make it feel so much better. Go here for an analysis on why lower dewpoint temperatures actually cause this!

A major cool down will come behind this front with high temperatures only in the mid 80s throughout the week. The major difference will be in the overnight lows, though. Temperatures each morning will be extremely comfortable in just the lower 60s. Check out these forecasted temperatures for Tuesday morning!

There will be some cloud cover in the Mid-South tonight and tomorrow morning, but skies will clear behind the front. There will be abundant sunshine all week, so a stretch of beautiful weather is in the extended forecast.
